I wish I had a closer date to compare to, and the '66 is a British strike, which may explain some things by itself, like the difference in the date styles, and the difference in space between the front hat point and the letter 'O.'
Anyway, considering or not considering those things, could all of the 82's 'yikes' be explained by a ton of grease on both sides? I don't think it has suffered any real metal loss from circulation; it weighs normal, 2.25g. The reeds are okay too, worn but not gone, so I don't suspect 'dryer coin.'

My first thought is a dryer coin,I see no reeds on the right side coin.

Could be circulation wear too. Can you please post a pic or two of the edge? Thx.

IMO it has seen considerable circulation.

Wear pattern seems uneven and wrong for just circulation.

Okay here's a closeup of the edge.
But better yet, I found ANOTHER ONE, 1982. As you can see, it's not as bad as the first one, but bad. This makes the 'DD' idea seem most plausible to me. And our own Roosevelts were so neglected in the early 80's that full bands/torches are scarce. So I would imagine Panamanian dies to be way down our priority list at that time.
