Hello,

I have a question about collecting. I'm collecting Proof Sets from 1979 to Date. My question is do I buy them in order or just however I want? Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Rich

If you are like most you buy when the opportunity presents itself .

never leave a deal on the table because you have confined yourself so tightly to a ideal on how to proceed that you have trouble deviating from it .

Collect them as you can. Do not worry about "skipping" one, you can always go back to it later!

If I were to collect in order, my Lincoln Head Cent album would only have two coins in it!

I'd go for the most expensive ones first, they typically rise in value quicker....and thus price.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM.
As with everyone else. If you see one you want, need or would just like to have, get it. If you start waiting for a specific one you may still be waiting for it in a few hundred years.
I'm still watching my change for a 1913 Liberty Head Nickel but I'm starting to suspect I'll never find one. Been looking for about 50 years now.

i buy whenever a deal presents itself, I bought a lot of 52 morgans about two years ago for around 400, I sold them individualy in april (when silver shot up) and made around 1800 profit. with that I bought what I collect (ms70 silver eagles, pr70 silver and clad State Quarters and presedential proofs) you have to keep your eyes open, opportunity to finance your collection is out there

If you try to buy them in order you also may get stuck on a certain set that could take years to find depending on how and where you buy them. Like the others have said, when you see it grab it. I do not know your money situation, but I would agree with BadThad about getting the more expensive ones first and go from there. If money is tight, then do the opposite and grab the 79-80's which are a lot cheaper first and save up for the other ones. Also, do not be afraid to buy more than one set, you could always sell it later of break it down for the individual coins.
