My bank teller friend that moved away emailed me this morning. She was wanting to know about the $1000 note. I told her they are still legal tender but no longer in production. Mostly the notes were used for bank to bank transfers and such. Anyways her boyfriend wants one it seems. I think he is looking for a conversational piece and not a numastic item. Don't think he is into coin / currency collecting. Other then ebay are there any valid currency dealers? I told her to check with the bank she works at first or the FED for the notes. Other then that I would look into some dealers for her. Suggestions?
Rest in Peace

Lol - I would have to do that. Actually I use my 10,000 peso notes or such for that. This guy wants the real thing.

Heritage or Lyn Knight would be my recommendations. Too bad you didn't know sooner- Heritage hammered several of them in the $2000 range at the September Long Beach show.

I think the FED shreds them. I don't think they'll reissue them.

Yep, the end destination for any high denomination bill turned into a bank is either being purchased by a bank employee or turned into the Fed for shredding.

No, seriously. It's true. Like with all non-circulating and unfit for circulation banknotes, the Fed shreds them and burn them.

Also, didn't the Canadians have a $1000 pinkie that was still circulating during the 80s? I guess you would have a much easier time getting the Canadian ones than the US ones.

Actually, our $1000 bill was in circulation up into the late 90s. If you wanted one, you would usually have to order it through a bank, because the banks didn't really keep them on hand. A lot of groups holding raffles of any size would offer one as their grand prize.

However, the most typical use for the $1000 bill was by drug traffickers and money launderers, and that is why they quit printing them.

You might try David Lawrence Rare Coins also. I know they deal in some paper money. Good luck on your search.

Believe it or not... I have seen a few $1000 notes at our coin shows.

Not that I could afford one just to put in my display case.
