Now that I think about it this is a perfectly reasonable service they should be providing me without fail nor hassle.

And I would completely disagree..... It's not their job to spend money to make you money for free. Ordering coins for you is not free for them.

Instead of roll hunting why not change your tactics .
Try any of these
A ... Try visiting a local coin store
B ... visit a local Flea or collectors market
C... join a local Coin club
D... advertise to BUY COINS locally .

Thinking that a Bank , Credit Union , Trust Company owes you anything is just wrong headed.
Over the years I have done many Coin and Banknote appraisals for clients in the Bank itself
often in the managers office .
Surprisingly many managers had copies of the Red Book , Charlton and other related guides.
The sense of entitlement of Coin roll hunters is amazing at times!
The ONLY time I have any sympathy is if you the customer order a sealed box and pay the FULL
SHIPPING FEE for receipt of the coins and ANY REDEPOSIT CHARGES.
Other than that as a Bank Shareholder , want nothing to do with needless costs.

Well I guess I hit some nerves here. Not my intention. First this was just a rant to vent some frustrations and I thought this may be the place. Now I understand business and that it cost the banks but that is part of their business and I was told repeatedly it not a problem and they were happy to do it. They have to order every week adding a box here or there is negligible.

Also I am looking for late models to fill an album not digging for silver that would be a gift. I am also not paying primiums on late model stuff. That's for the old morgans, peace and hard to get dates after I fill as much getting rolls fro a bank.

TO that end I did not get upset with the people at the bank, and they have had issue with staff opening boxes ordered for customers and I was not the first to be disappointed.

As far as saying you asked for 500 in half and they provided you to them, yes I can see that. However when I withdraw large sums of cash I also call ahead and make sure they have 100's. Not this is apples and oranges but I have that right to get the denomination I want and I also have the right to refuse torn or damaged bills just as the back may be entitled too.

So again this was a rant to vent frustrations and the one manager at the bank did apologize and guaranteed me a sealed box Wednesday. Again I was nice, in a suit and tie and acted professionally and with respect.

It's not hitting a nerve, it's decades of combined experience from people who have been there.

I know it sucks, I've lost pickup and dump banks. I've had management and tellers change, and that has led to policy changes.

We operate in kind of a gray area.

What we are doing is counterproductive to running a business. Processing coin orders and returns costs time and money for a bank. Many banks have policies about who can order coin and who can't- and the fees associated with that. We either have people who work at individual branches doing it as a favor or lack of concern with policy, or banks that do not have policies in place yet.

If you make waves and draw attention to yourself, it usually works against you. Individual people might decide a quick no is easier than effort. Branch managers have regional meetings- I know that I've been brought up in them specifically. That could end up leading to overall policy changes.

It's easier for me to avoid certain branches and find new ones in the long run. Being considerate helps too- not showing up to dump 20 minutes before closing, calling ahead for orders, etc.

There's a question my dad used to have me process when I wanted to get something done: "Do you want to be RIGHT or do you want to get it DONE?"

You are right here- they shouldn't be spending time going through boxes. But if you elevated your complaints, it might have led to getting no coins. Having that polite conversation and request will work out in the long run. I'd recommend opening an account at a friendlier bank that would do pick ups as well...you could even return the searched coins to the credit union. You know...if they enjoy searching coins, you can give them plenty to look through.

This thread made me ask my bank what there policy is on Rolls. For most rolls they will order them for regular customers as long as its not excessive (more than 3 times per month). They will order boxes of 50 cents but won't take them in for deposit. All change must be rolled and there is a limit of 100 rolls or $100 in change unless you are a business customer.

As to all "cool and different" coins. A teller is allowed to put them on the side as long as he/she replaces them with a like value. They generally DO NOT give them out to customers, several tellers and managers collect coins and they know the value of silver and older coins. At the end of the shift they will even swap coins to complete sets.

If deposits come in rolled all silver or all cuds they will notify the customer to inform them that they deposited a roll of silver coins and to ensure they wanted to do that and if they are all cuds they will inform the customer that they will no longer take rolls from them.

As to searching through rolls, there is no policy but if a customer orders $100 in quarters they will give $100 in quarters, if when pulling out the quarters they notice a roll marked W quarters, they will keep that one and give you another. You will still get $100 in quarters, just not the ones you want. I once asked for $20 in $2, several of them had a red seal, I saw the teller put those on the side and give me nice crisp ones :(

I have not done that. And I was assured a sealed box with an apology. My escalation was vented here. To get it out of my system so I did not do that at the bank.

And after reading some posts and responses I can see that I was wrong about expecting this as a service and the perks that teller get(still don't like the bank managers getting it compared to what the teller are paid).

Got the box. It was sealed. I was nice they were nice and I thanked the teller and asked her to thank the manager(s).

So far half way through. 3 40%, 71S and a few NIFC. Besides a ton I needed to fill the album.

I also have some odd plated coins with added date marks on the obverse 1984D's. And another custom satin type of finish with a Gettysburg stickers on the back(2014D well done though). Ill try to post picks of these as I just want to learn more about them not that they have any value I consider them damaged coins by interesting none the less.

I receive my halves from my bank. Once I ordered and opened a box that had a roll of small dollars in there. I called the manager and told her what I found, cause she had told me if I was ever short they would make it up. So if long I should be honest and return the overage, my opinion. She reported the error to her courier, they told her to open every box and inspect it before delivery to me. So all my boxes are opened, and inspected before I get them. Webekin
