Can anyone help explain the reason this penny is so red? I have seen red penny charts, but this penny is red. Not sure if this has value. At the bottom of this post I also posted images of a 1974 with the same discoloring but with a blue(ish) tint on the reverse. I also posted a close up of the mint mark for the '71. The focus is off because of the lack of proper equipment.

Please show much larger images. This does not appear to be an uncirculated coin.

Looks like a paint job...note the devices are worn showing the metal.

But yes, better pictures please!

No it's not uncirculated, it is actually well circulated lol. I was wondering about the color, is this common and does it have value?

No paint does not add value ;) LOL.

You might look to see if you have a re-punched mint mark... http://www.varietyvista.com/02b%20L...%201971D.htm

Otherwise... most likely one to throw back into circulation.

I don't think the red colour is paint, but rather a deep tarnishing perhaps. Not worth keeping in my opinion.
