I am new to coin collecting so please bear with me. I have a 1996 D quarter weihing 5.71 does anyome know why?

@bacot, first welcome to CCF. Second, that seems within the mint tolerance for weight. Is there something about this quarter that makes you suspicious? Also, having pictures of the coin added to this thread would be super-helpful. Here is a link to the tutorial for uploading them:

Yes a picture will help alot-- I got a 1999 quarter and it's a gray black color and weight is 55.4.So i.'ll be waiting to hear what it could be

Weight of a clad quarter is supposed to be 5.67 grams with a tolerance range of +/- .227 so 5.443 to 5.897 is considered within tolerance.
