A word of caution to those who might be chasing a registry set contender with this no reserve auction - this is the same coin that was pulled from the Geoffrey Bell Auctions Fall 2018 Coin Expo auction (cert. number matches)... and the same coin that Rob Turner and I wrote about in the November 2018 CN Journal.

Also similar to the same coin originally discussed here: http://goccf.com/t/271041

PCGS and NGC are aware of this coin, not sure if any others have been subsequently certified by ICCS.

I just learned that the auction _might_ get pulled. Here are the photos for posterity... the quarter-moon gouge above the 9 in the date is a pretty good marker for the reverse, while the full serifs on the N of REGINA and D of CANADA are the key markers that proves this is not the right die for a 1891 SDLL Obv #2.

I couldn't open the Ebay link, but I remember the coin from 2018. Who was trying to resell it?

Scary.
I wonder how many of these kinds of fakes are out there.
What if TCH had never decided to submit one to PCGS?
Had the obverse been correct might they have passed undetected?

It looks like a coin I bid on myself when it was initially on eBay from a Spanish seller. I did buy the 1888 from the same sale. A spectacular piece. Full red and blazing lustre. Long ago and far away. And likely you know...

Did anyone contact the seller? Who was the seller?

No, and eBay yanked the listing before I could go back and see. Seller from Ontario, that's all I have.

The 1914 10-cent, with the Edward VII obverse, from the same seller is what tipped off the TCH that something was amiss - then, TCH posting here and Rob Turner's expertise on the 1891 dies is what was the clincher.
