I've got dozens of rolls of wheaties that I've searched and re-wrapped. I'd say there's 40 rolls right next to me now! I've got a special affection for Lincoln's. Maybe it's because I'm from Illinois. Now BU rolls are a different story. I don't have any YET! I may pick up some BU LMC from the 60s and 70s this though.

So for those of you who were worried about completing your Lincoln collections!
I don't think anyone (including myself) truly grasps how many millions and millions of lincolns have been squirelled and hoarded and "collected" away.

I could never have a roll collection because I'd be too tempted to bust them open. That's the first thing I do when I get a roll! Hey, isn't that what they are designed for? LOL

The number is simply enormous but don't lose sight of the fact that most of the pre-1955 rolls originally saved have been busted up. Also keep in mind that because most collec- tors gave up saving new coins in 1965 we have the odd situ- ation that most available rolls are '59- 64 plus '73- '76 and with a smattering of '79 to '81. There are also large numbers of a few of the dates from the '90's but others of these are elusive. Then the last few years are probably pretty common and at least haven't had time to get busted up. None of the dates back to 1930 are truly rare and even the '09-S VDB can probably be found with effort. The '14-D should be down well into single digits.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

This is the amazing thing about coin collecting. To my mind having rolls and rolls, or hundreds and hundreds of virtually the same coin would bore me rigid! And yet someone else might only collect variations of that one coin!

Thad,
Just seal them back up when you done! I started opening some of them, looking for varieties and high grades to send in.

Chris - That is an awesome array of rolls that you have there! I have a large collection of lincoln opened bank rolls or Choice/BU rolls that have been opened dating back to 1943. I sure hope though that most of those OBW rolls are good. I have recently been thinking of joining PCGS to get some coins graded, and I have two 1954 OBW rolls with incredible toning on the end coins (One of them has the paper cap on the end.) The other night, I finally opened one of them thinking there is got to be a 66 in there ($500 on PCGS price guide). I would be lucky to get a worthless 64 out of the bunch - lots of spots and cuts. I was heartbroken!

eagle1 - Welcome to the world of Lincolns! LOL
Finding gem coins is very difficult, especially with the Memorial series.

Sometime opening the rolls is nothing but a disappointment. At the same time the value drops. I have been there. There are 2 sides of this though, you find the 54 in 67-68 you hit the jackpot. You find a rare variety and you hit it again. Some think taking them out of the wrapper helps preserve them, it probably does, at the same time the value drops.
I joined PCGS to do the same, if you take advantage of the quarterly specials, register some sets and get them 90% complete for free grading, it is not a bad deal.
I just opened a roll that all of the mint marks were blobs, other than that there were some real nice wheats in there. I opened one of my 1955 roll, all cracked skull's with weak strikes.
I started saving the different wrappers when I open them, they are nice for reference on what year came out of it.
