Hi. I have a little German, but am struggling with some of the subtleties some prepositions relating to numbers (specifically dates). I see von, ab, and bis used frequently with respect to dates.
1. If a coin is dated "von 1999", does this mean "1999 and later"? Or does it actually mean "2000 and later"? 2. Similarly, if a coin is dated "bis 1999", does this mean "1999 and earlier"? Or does it actually mean "1998 and earlier"? 3. Are ab and von synonyms or are there specific situations where one used over the other?
Vielen Dank to our native German speakers for your assistance!
