I did a quick search and haven't seen this question, so here goes...

What is the "right" way for the edge lettering to be? Should it be right side up with the "heads up", or the "Liberty up" position?

I'm asking because I have found both on some of the coins; it would seem to me that there must be a right answer to this.

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Now I'm wondering if I should bother trying to get a variety of each one.

On business strike coins, the edge lettering is applied in a process separate from the striking of the coin. Since it is a secondary process, that is why the position can be random. On proofs, the lettering is unidirectional because the edge lettering is applied via segmented collar at the time of striking. I believe that this method was deemed too slow to produce business strikes so that is why it is only used on the low volume proofs.

That is entirely up to you. If you do, I am pretty sure you would not be the first.

If you are going to put the coins in an album where you cannot see the edge, then I would not. I have still not decided if I want to collect date and mint on these, since I cannot see the mint mark in the Dansco album! I am contemplating just collecting the proofs. Oh, decisions!

I am collecting original rolls from the bank of each president.
So far I have only P mint marks .

I have noticed online coin stores selling these rolls for $34.99 per.

At the end of the series I will have a roll of every coin in the series.

I'll be able to build sets with the Dansco Albums and make me some change!
