Just ran across this one. Caught my eye. First thought it was a tool mark, but then looked closer and it looks different than tool marks that I have seen. Probably just PMD , but thought I would share and ask.

Almost looks like a struck through error of some sort.

I don't think that it is struck through because of the matching damage on the obv. Rather this looks like a counterstamp, which would have been done after the coin left the mint.

The coin was damaged after the strike. It took a hit with something on the reverse and the flattening is seen on the obverse. Spendable.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like I possibly found a counterstamper's error! &. Been trying to figure out the letter or symbol, but no luck so far.

Counterstamps aren't an error. Someone took this from their change and did it.

Yeah, not an error, just deliberate damage to the coin.

My poor attempt at humor. I realize it is damage. Just my luck that when looking for legitimate errors, I would find someone's deliberate attempt at a counter stamp that apparently went wrong on them.
