Was looking through some coins I found detecting and saw the date on this one has a strange looking "4"

Any idea if this is a known variety?

It's normal for the date. It's just kind of hidden on your coin. Here's an image of an uncirculated 1874 cent.

The first US coin motto was found on a 1792 half disme and read: "LIB (erty) PAR (ent) OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY"

Perhaps corrosion is distorting this area, but the crosslet 4 is normal for the date.
