I'm struggling with getting my phone's camera to adequately capture coins, so if these images aren't sufficient I understand...
Does this look like an authentic Three Cent Silver? I know so little and have wanted one for so long, so I'm hoping it's real.

to the CCF!

It looks good to me. Any reason you question its authenticity?

I'll put my neck out there and say I have never seen or heard of fakes of low grade common date 3CS.

Well, I only paid $18 for it, but I figured that might be because it's so beat up.
I recently received some counterfeit coins from another seller and that got my hackles up a little.
And in reviewing the negative feedback the 3 cent seller had, there was a lot of name calling and weird angry comments on both sides. So that was concerning.
I'm a newbie so I'm trying to learn more.
The coin itself doesn't give me any red flags, but again I'm a noob.
If it's isn't real it's not like I'm losing a lot of $. Mainly, just curious and trying to learn more.

Great! I love it and I'm glad it's real. I'll put it next to my worn beyond belief eagle cent.
I'm starting to become afraid of ebay.

Looks legit to me too.

Always proceed with caution on eBay. Sadly it's not just the key dates anymore being faked, but I as well have never seen a fake 3c silver. (But just to be safe I'll also stick Grapes neck out).

In the future, if you're hesitant, post a pic of the coin for opinion before buying. You'll get your answer pretty quick on here.

Yeah, there's a 99.99% chance it's real. Which it is.

I will say there are low grade counterfeit 3cs out there, but most (probably all) of those are contemporary counterfeits from around the same time period as the original coins were minted. They can be quite hard to find in good condition and quite collectible. As others have stated this one is real. Great coin to get your feet wet!

I agree that the coin in question is real. If you are concerned with buying on eBay, I would suggest only buying from reputable sellers with lots of feedback from selling coins. You could also buy coins certified by PCGS, NGC, and ANACS to minimize your chances of buying a counterfeit.

As always, if you have any questions about a specific coin you're looking at, you can always post a pic of it here to get some feedback on it.

My favorite US coin. Looks legit. I just sold one in about that shape for about that much. So you likely got a good deal.

Looks fine.

The thing to look for is the angles on the star (and the star outlines on the types 2 and 3). Without real mint equipment and real die making skills, those angles are almost impossible to get right.
