The Indian or "Buffalo" Nickel was minted from 1913 to 1938. The last two digits here are 19, so it must be a 1919 nickel. The mint mark, if it has one, will be on the reverse just under the words FIVE CENTS and will confirm where the coin was minted if it's not worn off. If it has no mint mark, it's from Philadelphia, an S would be San Francisco and the D would indicate a Denver minted coin.
The first US coin motto was found on a 1792 half disme and read: "LIB (erty) PAR (ent) OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY"

Not sure if the US Mint knew about the future enough to suspect a 2019 Indian Head Nickel so I guess is the 1919.

Clearly 1919, but curious why the first 9 looks so much like an 8? Just how it's worn over the years, or someone trying to pull the wool over uneducated eyes?

The first 9 has more wear than the second 9 is why it looks like it was an 8.
