Is this another former encapsulated coin? Never seen an example like it. The rim seems to be doubled, extra thick and raised.

Extra heavy rims that are into the inscriptions are often due to spooning or other mechanical damage such as being dryer coins.

Might be a former Encased Coin. Weight might help. Not an error or variety IMHO.
