Please ignore the lint.

Also, tell me why you grade it as you do.

AU-58, the high points on the bust show light wear.

the reverse is not showing any signs of circulation and the surfaces are quite nice. I think the coin may have had contact with other coins at one time based on the marks across the jacket. there appears to be some discoloration under the ear and upper jaw and the luster appears to be broken on the highest points of the devices. this one could go either way. AU58 or MS63+

MS65RD maybe RB I can't really tell. I'm not seeing any luster breaks like others do apparently.

MS63 - the shoulder area into the lapel looks a bit rough - can't tell what is going on there.

Fantastic coin!

I played with the photos a bit to get a better look at the luster, lowering light, sharpening the image, and enhancing color.

The obverse does not appear to have a break in luster. It has discoloration on the high points of the central design. This is consistent with being an album coin, rather than circulation.

There is one significant contact mark on the forehead, two seemingly recent scratches above "LI" of LIBERTY (the seeming recency could be a perception based on the lighting angle), and an older scratch east of the forehead. These contact marks are consistent with MS-65.

The reverse is spectacular. It is a later die state, and has evidence of fairly heavy die polishing. Other than a microscopic divot between the "O" of ONE and "CE" of CENT, a nearly invisible scratch east of the "E" in ONE, and a small scratch near the "O" in OF, the reverse is pristine. The discoloration near the top of the right wheat stalk is consistent with an album coin. The reverse is easily MS-66.

I'm at net MS-65+ RD. I wouldn't be shocked by MS-66 RD.

EDIT: There are a number of small die breaks on the obverse and reverse.

Has a good shot at 66RD. Beautiful piece. This date is common in MS65RD and has been certified up to MS68RD.

I could easily see this going up to an MS64RD, I'd be surprised any higher than that though

Thanks everyone, for your opinions. Just for informational purposes (not to knock anyone's comments) this coin has definitely never been in circulation. It came out of an original roll of like coins (and had remained in that partial roll for it's entire life - save for the few times it had been removed, handled and returned to the roll.)

fortcollins: Really nice detailed reply!
