i think the look of the shield has a lot to do with excessive die polishing and weak strike. the higher devices like the lettering, stars and olive branch appear to be sharper than than VF25. the overall look of the coin, eliminating the flat areas, has the look of a high VF coin. I'm thinking a weak strike along with wear and a possible polish on the obverse are contributing factors here. I would call it VF details. if it did grade straight I would net it at VF20

When the coin was purchased on eBay, my concern was a that the coin had been cleaned, but I really liked the full date and toning, so the purchase was made. Once the coin was in hand, I inspected it for hairlines under light and magnification. There are no cleaning or polishing hairline on the obverse, but there are some hard to find hairlines on the reverse field in front of the eagles head. In the photo you can pick up a trace of the hairlines. If the coin had more value, It would be interesting to send in for grading. My grade is VF 20/25 market acceptable. Thanks for the comments and grades.

I'd say it's a respectable VF-20. Gotta love those SLQ!

Nice, but challenging coin. The top portions of both side seem to have greater wear than the bottom portions, especially with lettering or numbers. The date is quite good for a lower grade, as are other features in the shield, just below the neck through the right hand. The reverse has greater disparity between upper and lower portions in the lettering (crispness v. flatness). The wing feathers look like mid VF.
I would say VF 25 or VF 30 at best overall.
