Hi,
I've been asked by a family friend to identify and value a few coins in her possession.
From Googling, I believe I've identified this as a 1604 Mansfeld-Bornstedt Taler, although some of the legend is different to the one on worldcoinsinfo.com
At some point this coin has been made into a brooch, and then the fixings removed (or partially removed). I appreciate this will affect any value, but does it still retain a value and collector interest in its current state?
Thanks
Simon

@shiva, I think your coin is a Mansfeld-Friedeburg thaler like this one: https://www.coinarchives.com/w/lotv...2a8341f9ae01

As you can see, this one had also been mounted in some kind of fixture previously. It does diminish the value, but it happens often enough that there is still a market for coins with a defect like this.

DO not do anything to remove the dark patina on your coin; this will make it less desirable. You coin has more wear than the one in the link, so I would expect the value to be somewhat lower.

Thank you Tdziemia! Ok, I was close but no cigar.
That info is really useful, and also to know that such mountings are not unusual.
Cheers
Simon
