Does Mint Packaging Add Value? - Coin Community Forum

The topic was about the Presidential dollar and First Spouse Medal set https://goccf.com/t/39674 These coins are still available individually from the mint but the 2007 sets are selling on ebay for over a $100 bucks. Is this due to the mintage of the sets or the packaging? Sorry if this seems to be a dumb question but it makes me wonder Report this Post to the Staff

The Dollar and the Medal just aren't worth $8.00......and something is just "fishy" here to me.......or I might consider buying several just to have or sell at some point way down the line.... I think that is because of the original untampered with aspect , since mint packaging from its inception to today is anything but well lets just say innovative as far as being protective of the coins. There will always be those willing to pay a premium for the original container, but others will prefer having the parts and not the set. ratio411 Pillar of the Community United States 1208 Posts	Posted 12/31/2008 4:38 pm I won't buy coins that are claimed to be a mint set unless they have all the original packaging. I don't know that I pay what one would call a "premium"... More like I would expect a big discount if mint package 'parts' are missing. Even the COA... Some folks don't think that way though, so it is probably a wash until the item is 40 or 50 years old, then it is a definate plus. Report this Post to the Staff
