Not sure if this is the right forum but I wanted to ask what people here in general are paying for 5000 count bags of wheat cents. Obviously these are going to be mostly 40's and 50's but I dont search for the lesser known varieties that some copper cent collectors do. Or it's good for hoarding bullion. So, what's the general range for these? I am guessing somewhere around $225/5000 count bag before shipping.

When I used to buy them I paid between $120 and $160 a bag. That was a few years ago. I am still have several thousand lying around in various places. Every time I think they have all gone I find another box....

The price has obviously gone up since I last bough a bag. I will have to seriously think about digging out all my wheaties and finding new homes for them.

Quote: AMPEX has 5000 count bags for $199.00. 1909 -1958. Here is the link.
That's a pretty good price. I wonder how long that will last since it's part of their big year end sale.

Quote: AMPEX has 5000 count bags for $199.00. 1909 -1958. That's more like it...3-4 cents apiece is reasonable. Often, dealers won't even buy back bulk wheats for 2 cents apiece.

Those are either dealers who aren't up with the times or just don't need the coins and have no resale point for them. ANY reasonable dealer who has a chance to resell the coins will pay 3 cents each at a minumum...$150 per bag. I wouldn't sell mine for under $200 a bag right now.

Wow...I'm impressed. Dealers here won't give you anything for them because all they care about is high margin / quick turnaround.

$.04 per sounds fair to me. I don't know what I'd pay if some old lady came up to me and told me she had a basement full.

Keep in mind that the listing says "Unsearched by us."

I thought long and hard about the APMEX deal. I could cherry pick the bag and trade the rest in at 3 cents a piece. So if I kept none, it would cost me $50 to search it. I decided against it, don't know why, just wasn't feeling it. BD

I have not bought a bag before but know that I can get them from my local dealer for $.03 a piece and buy what I can when I go in there.

I checked AMPEX web site and it seems there sold all 10 of their 5000 count bags in the last few days. WOW.
My local dealers are buying at 2 cents. When I asked sell price they both said 5 cents apiece, but then said 4 cents each when I said how about for all of them?
Even with wheats being so plentiful, I still think 5 cents apiece is awesome for coins that can be up to 100 years old.
