Fellow noodlers will know the feeling of finally finding a sought after coin only for it to be in such bad shape that it's not really worth keeping.

Feel free to share your horror stories here.

I'll start with this pair of eye-waterers.

1985 50 cents and 2013 coronation $2 - both with mintages of 1 million.

Ouch that has to hurt. Mind you probably a market for both of those if you wanted to sell on.

Key date British 1950 penny (mintage 240,000) received in change by me as a kid shortly before Decimatization!

I'm guessing that still holds pride of place somewhere in your collection.

Actually they have been sold on.

So has this particularly sad 1972 5 cent.

Fortunately, the British Penny wasn't a 1954.

Yes, I kept it even though I've long since upgraded it!

This one is still in my collection - an 1875H penny (mintage 752,640, catalogued 2,500 in UNC):

I imagine far fewer of them survive than 1950 pennies! Amazingly, I once had an even worse one, in similar condition but with TWO holes in it! Sadly I traded it to another collector and don't have a photo of it...

1985 10 cent. 2.1 million mintage but now very hard to find in circulation. So you'd hope it would be in better condition than this when you did find one!

1905 British Halfcrown - Mintage 166,000

Condition is GOOD - in this condition about $200, in VF - $1000 and in UNC $10k or more.

Loving Halfcrowns. British and Commonwealth coins 1750 - 1950 and anything Kiwi.
If it's round, shiny and silvery I will love it.

That halfcrown would be GOOD to have in any condition.

Not so sure about this newly released 2019 IRB 50 cent, even though mintage is only 240K.

On a similar note, when noodling bulk foreign coins I sometimes find a coin I know I don't have (usually a commemorative) that at first glance is aUNC. Me = . I then flip it and discover the opposite side is trashed. Me = . I suspect quite a few of these were souvenir coins glued onto a backing. The non-glued site is schmick but the glue has ruined the other side.

Yes I know what you mean. I understand alot of the 2012 red poppy coins were glued onto the card by RSL workers. Glad the ones I got weren't any of those.

This coin was part of a 7 coin set issued in 2018 to commemorate the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. It didn't fare well in the wild.

Mintage 450K
