I am very new to coin collecting and need some help identifying if there is an error on this penny. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Guessing this is circulation damage, with metal pushed aside from a hit.

to CCF. Yes, your Lincoln Cent has something going on with the date, almost looks fake, but a very clear close-up pic will be needed to tell what happened there. It is not an error concerning the date and without a doubt something that happened after it left the mint.

I agree with the Frog, from circulation, your coin has taken a blow, pushing metal and damaging the number 4. As Bumpkin said, a clearer close-up would be most helpful. This is definitely post mint damage.

If not too late, a large and sharp photo of the reverse would be welcome. Thanks.
