I had posted a while back that I was looking for an uncirculated copy of 1956-D RPM#1 Lincoln Cent that had the late die state BIE, and forum member @Tropicalbats graciously sent me his to photograph. Now I have at least a good photo of this rare error/variety coin. Take a look at these high resolution photos:

The one I posted has the BIE. I have not seen any of these available for a very long time. However, if you can find a nice BU one for me to buy, I'll give you a generous finder's fee.

Thanks to you Mr. Bats for the images!
The coin is his but the images are the OP's, that what he does, and very well.

To rmpsrpms;

Spectacular imagery...especially if the color is accurate (which I expect with your dedication to quality it is). Respect to you!!!

Also, I second you on the quest for a nice BU example of this genuinely rare combination. Two and a half decades of searching and I've amassed two VF examples.

Thanks for the eye candy.

Thanks to all for the kind words.

@EScottCoins, the color is as accurate as I can make it. I use a Nikon Printing-Nikkor for these high-resolution shots. Printing-Nikkors are true apochromatic lenses, and give such perfect color accuracy that the coin can look almost "sterile", but this level of accuracy is desired when documenting coins such as this one.

@rmpsrpms,

Thanks for the response! I'd gone down the same lens path and understand and agree with your (great) description of potentially somewhat "sterile" looking. For the intended purpose it's certainly a great choice for static imagery.

Thanks for bringing this level of quality imagery to the hobby, very cool of you....and fun!

Kind regards and happy collecting!

Happy to have loaned out the coin for this work. Phenomenal imagery! Thank you for posting such amazing work, and as always look forward to the photography you do with coins. It's just, well, amazing. And that's not weak praise as my nature photography has been in such places as Shutterbug Magazine, National Geographic, and of course Bats, and many cover photos for Bat Research News. Your coin photos are the best out there, and proud to have one of my coins done by the best.

I think XF is probably right. Too much wear to be AU.

I do see that I was wrong about this coin, as it does appear to have the BIE. I had not looked closely enough. Do you plan to buy it? If not, I may pick it up. It's not UNC but I don't have one at all.

You just got a major bargain. Surprised it took that long for someone to grab that one, but maybe because the BIE wasn't easy to see in the images.
