I was wondering how common the 1882 O/S Morgan is.

I've seen less than 10 1882-O Morgans between the few Coin Shops I frequent and already picked out 2 O/S.

Are they common or did I just get lucky?

One of my local shots in the Salt Lake area had 4-5 on display this past weekend. At any given moment on eBay, there are a couple dozen available.

There are 3 different VAMs of the 0/S, so part of their availably is that 3 dies were pressing them. As an over mintmark goes, they are one of the more glaring examples, and that may be the part of the value. But they are not "rare" by any stretch and I would bet the population reports have counted into the thousands. One of mine is questionably a G4; the OMM is so defined that it can be spotted in well worn coins :)

There is big price jump in getting into the MS64-65 range. MS65 versions seem rather scarce and are priced at a pretty penny. But an XF-MS62 can be had any day.
My hoard of '82s is up to 223! 218 BC x 1, 118 BC x 3, 18 BC x 1, 82 x 1, 182 x 1, 282 x 2, 382 x 1, 582 x 2, 682 x 1, 782 x 2, 882 x 1, 982 x 4, 1082 x 1 1182 x 8, 1282 x 2, 1382 x 1, 1482 x 5, 1582 x 13, 1682 x 16, 1782 x 58, 1882 x 62, 1982 x 37

My specimen is a vam-4 strong, AU-50. When I was looking at some random Morgans last year, there was an 1882-O, and the first thing I did was look at the mintmark for that variety. Low and behold, it was the O/S type .
