I have been looking at Standing Liberty quarters recently and have noticed some similar marks or cracks on different coins. Is the large mark on the left wing a die crack and are the smaller marks on the right wing tool marks? Ive attached a picture for viewing.

Another question. Does this qualify as a die variety?

Not sure, but I moved this to the variety and error sub-forum for focused attention.

I believe the areas noted are part of the design. The marks on the left wing were used on the 1916, and 1917 type 1, but you will not find the left wing marks on the 1917 type 2 coins and after.

On the right wing the design has overlapping feathers of different sizes and there is some Die Deterioration that make it look like a line.

I think you are right about that. What a weird part of the design. I dont think it adds any visual quality to the coin at all, especially the smaller marks on the left wing.
