mdpmedia Pillar of the Community United States 3546 Posts	Posted 10/20/2021 4:03 pm The 1 and the 8 look odd and I wanted to ensure that I was looking at the RPD variety. Does everyone agree that it is the RPD listed in CoinFacts and/or VarietyPlus? Also, that vertical line in the eight bothers me somewhat. It's vertical nature makes me think that it is PMD since it lacks any curvature. However, the fact that it does not uniformly appear over the top of that device raises more questions about its origin. Can anyone opine on this concern as well? I just don't know, yet, if it is worth attributing by the TPG. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 10/29/2021 8:31 pm Here are the date area and the FS-501 reverse mintmarks: On your coin it looks like a field alteration on that area. The closest guess, could be a die scrape or a feeder finger damaged area affected. On the 1944 cents there were a lot of them that had this issue, vertically on the upper part of the design: But that is just a guess, as there are two lines affecting the fields on these. So I feel it is a die gouge. on that area. Note how it flows behind the devices. So it was deeper than the fields on that area. Thus it's appearance on that area of you coin.
