Hi. I just registered so I could learn more about coins, as I have recently started collecting. My question, is; Are there 1956 D/S Wheat Pennies in existance? Thank you!

Hi Criscpk214 and welcome to CC. There are no 1956-D/S cents as none were minted in San Francisco for that year. There is a D above a shadow D variety for this date, though. Do you have one of these? It would be nice to see a pic if possible.

Susan, I am having trouble uploading. It says HTTP 500 Internal Service error. So I can try emailing them to you? Should I do that? Thank you.

Here is the better of the two pics. Can you do a clear, close-up of the date and mint mark?

Thanks for the link, But I have a question ,, would this be considered a D/S or would this be an additional MM?
when I read the question in my own mind I was thinking OMM and Susan's answer would be correct for that designation.

Well I'm back. I am going to try taking better pictures for Susan. I am having trouble though:(. I have the camera on macro. Any other suggestions. My main problem is it won't focus once close enough to the MM. Thanks.

I am glad It is now letting me post pictures. Also, even though the pic is bad try taking a look at it. With my luck it will probably turn out to be a plain D mintmark. I am not sure, but you might try saving it then zooming in more. P.S. Sorry about the darkness! Chriscpk214 Image: 1956 Penny 4.jpg22.54 KB

Am I wrong, or is there something unusual about the six in the date? Rick

I have one like that too. One of the working hubs at the Philadelphia mint had a piece break off at the six giving it that look. And at the time Philadelphia was hubbing dies for the Denver Mint so they got the same thing. I'm not sure what that is below the mintmark. It looks like a re-punched mintmark to me.

Please! Anyone who will look at the pic, please do so and tell me what you think. I want to know if it is strange looking or if you think it'just a damaged D mintmark. Please either reply to this forum or email me with your thoughts. Thank You. --Chris--

I brightened up the pic a bit and tried to sharpen the image a little.
