Fred is a wonderful human being and has some amazing tales to tell of his time in the coin business. He started out young and was traveling to Europe regularly ever 6 to 8 weeks from the mid 1970's through the late 1990's dealing in gold coins, his stories are legendary and true! I loved his ANA Legacy talk with Barbara Green and I miss seeing him since I don't get out to Long Beach like I did when I lived in Southern California. The "Slab Lab" is a nice addition to the Legacy ANA series and older David Lisot interviews.
My favorite Fred Story is when he found the "finest known" Half Cent at a little coin show in Basel, Switzerland during one of his gold buying trips for Harry Foreman, and how he brought the coin back. It ended up in now famous Missouri Cabinet Collection of R. Tettenhorst (Eric P. Newman's Brother-in-Law, Bernard Alan Edison - he used his secretary's name to conduct coin business). Lot #20 a 1794 C-7 in MS67RB - an amazing coin! If you ever run into him at a show have him tell you all about it.

Oh yeah, that Half Cent? It sold for more than a million dollars too.
