Very interesting coin!! That is a defective planchet. There are natural, jagged surfaces that are exposed, which would go against the theory that this was cut out intentionally. The cracks from the chipped area extend outward through the rest of the planchet. That is what I call a cracked skull!
Cracked planchet. Note how this could not be faked as the two pieces are layer. (impossible to fake) How could this happen. On the hot metal a piece of cold metal was rolled into the stock metal. After the strike the rolled onto piece and the hot rolled metal went there separate ways.
