A friend of mine works estate sales and she picked this up for me.
This is the 3rd year of publication of this book.
Here are just a couple of examples of the price guide in 1949
What a hoot!
I hope you enjoy them!

I was born in 1949 . Why couldn't my parents buy uncirculated coins to commemorate my birth .

In Memory of Butch L.

1949 1909s VDB Fine 10 Uncirculated 16.50...
2023 1909s VDB Fine $850 Uncirculated Ms60 1650, MS63 2000

Now all I need is a delorean that can go up to 88mph, oh and some plutonium and a flux capacitor a la the movie back to the future... Edit to self: Don't forget your Grays Sports Almanac. You see this book? This book tells the future. Tells the results of every major sports event till the end of this century--horseracing, baseball, football, boxing...

So, back in 1949 the 1909s in Fine condition was worth a gold Indian Head of $10. Current melt value of that coin is about $860. In other words, prices have been about stable in Real Money.

Here is what a $10 item from 1949 would cost today based on inflation adjustment, still much lower than the coin value change.

The inflation calculator is fake as it uses highly corrupted CPI numbers.
I suggest looking at the cost of comparable services instead, in 1949 and 2022. For instance, take a haircut. In the 40's and 50's it was about 25 cents. Nowadays about $20-40 dollars. So, a factor of about 100, which is again quite similar to the cost of a 1909s in 1949 and 2022.
This factor of 100x show up over and over again if you compare prices of services between now and the 40's and 50's. https://returntothe50s.weebly.com/p...and-50s.html
So, never ever believe an "inflation calculator" again that show you a measly 10-12x.
