Hello I am curious if the forum could help me decipher what tragedy bestruck this coin or perhaps if somebody used chemicals to remove the plating or I'm not sure what else could have happened to it. all of the devices seem very strong it doesn't seem to be any chemical where on it so to speak and yeah I'm just kind of stumped as to what's going on with this coin so please help. Also it weighs 2.5

@tea, first welcome to CCF. The weight seems right—thx for including this info. It looks a little like there is some gold coloration in your pic. Is that accurate or is it actually grey? Thx for the clarification.

Under microscopy it appears a golden but without the aid of ocular mechanical advantage it appears to be a darker almost silver like toning ...sort of that greyish toning

It could be a function of the poor lighting I have as to the golden hue. I can submit some other pics if I must for a firm identification. Even under a higher mag. Let me know. Also thank you for your warm welcome

Can you post a full coin photo side-by side with another copper plated cent please?

Thank you for adding the photo. It looks a bit larger than the others? Like maybe a "Texas" cent?

The weight is normal for a zinc cent. Is it possible that it was rubbed with a bit of mercury to achieve this color? If it were the zinc interior - I would expect it to be more matte, not shiny.

Just out of curiosity how many of you checked the Close AM on that 92 just a heart check to see what kind of coin people I'm dealing with here, anyways sounds like we're kind of needing more info on this one how would you guys suggest that go about the wherewithal pertaining to this coin is it even worth pursuing a planchet error on this or perhaps a PCGS error submission I don't know what should I do.... I guess the only real winner here would be some sort of foreign planted error perhaps ..

No need to send in. Only worth 1 cent. I agree with Dearborn, mercury rubbed.

Well in your first post you only mentioned the color or lack of plating not about CAM or WAM. That is what we had focused on.
Now that you mention it, I think it is a WAM, but the Machine Doubling between the A and M (and other letters) are appearing to make it look like a CAM, But seeing on how close the initials FG are to the memorial tells me that this is a WAM.
