Hi all,
I found the following coin: http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.c...ary_pick-ups
It is unattributed(of course) and in an ICG holder for sale online.
The VAM was discovered in July of this year. So I presume this is the second example. Thus, there is no R or I number listed.
I have a few questions:
1. Would there be any added value on top of it compared to its non-VAM counterpart if I went to resell it?
If so how much, and is there a collector base for newly discovered VAMs?
Thanks in advance,
collector.detector

I would look back to the coins that it was thought to be the 1897-O VAM 6 which is not a particularly interesting variety and this coin follow that IMO. Interest value will probably remain low around 2 even though the Rarity value is high (for now) until more VAM 6 & VAM 15 coins get separated out as the VAM 15.

While it's a neat new variety there just isn't much to the variety that draws one to it, like say a "Hot Lips" or a Long Arrow Shaft (B1 reverse) more of a minor variety I'd say. As to value, it's probably at it's highest pricing right now if there are a couple people fighting to get one before more become uncovered and known.

If selling it, right now is your target time, be sure to market the coin as the "Newly Discovered VAM Variety" and put the word out you are selling as many places that allow you too do so.

That's my Two Cents anyways.

Westcoin,
Thank you so much for the advice. I decided to go through with the purchase. Should I contact anyone regarding the fact that a new vam-15 was found?

The only guys I know that keep track of that sort of thing is Michael Fey and John Roberts (ANACS). They should be fairly easy to find online. Let me know if you can't find them. I'm sure they would either know of a database someone is keeping, but as as I recall it was only Leroy Van Allen and he has pretty much retired now, Dr. Fey bought out his library a few months ago and is no handling most of the old supplement pages for the VAM book.
