Will: Bowers and Merena was the auction company for the Norweb sale of Canadian coins on 15 Nov 1996. I was fortunate to be in attendance. As you well know these superb coins appear very infrequently as most were sold into strong hands such as yourself.
Kudos for making it happen.

Nice to see the beard, eyebrow and mustache detail on KG V as sharp as this.

These are the details I closely look at very closely, when grading any KG V coin.

Reasons for less sharpness are
1. worn die
2. worn coin
3. light strike.

@thedollarman -

That is a stunning example and a great story for your coin.

King George V has some of my FAVORITE coin designs of all time, and the Canada Dollar is at or near the top of my list.

I have a couple from 1936 (different KM of course), but I have the 1935 on my wishlist!!

PS: The 5-cent piece (nickel 1922 - 1936) is a close tie with the dollar for me. I love the reverse on that coin too!

Will,
Huge Congrats, you can't go wrong with an awesome coin with incredible provenance. I remember seeing that lot at the Norweb sale
and loved the story behind it at the time. At the time, there were so many lots that I needed that it was easy to overlook this incredible coin
in its own right. Happy collecting!

Thanks for the kind words everybody! If the gentleman who sold this to me does happen to read this forum, please know that this is by far the most important coin in my collection and a piece I truly love!

@Sid Belzberg It's always cool getting to talk to people who held the same coins decades ago.. two of my favorite pieces are actually coins from your collection. I was able to reunite your 1939 SP66 dime and 1939 SP66 quarter.. The quarter now resides in a PCGS SP66+CAM. I'm very thankful for gentleman like you who made sure to take care of their collections!
