This quarter seems AU details, and probably cleaned and possibly damaged on top of that. I am wondering how much a coin like this, which seems quite scarce, especially in "higher" grades, would be. I'm more interested in the value than the grade, given that this coin seems like damaged good.

I wonder how many people looking for a 1860-S quarter is looking for a cleaned one. I would avoid it. The Seated quarter series is so long that I wonder how many people are looking to put together a date/mm set. A type collector will want a nicer one imho.

It's worth a heck of a lot more than most people would consider paying for it.

That said, there's a lot of patina left on the piece. My guesstimate is $5,000 retail in the right auction.

Thanks so much, CCF! As always I appreciate your expertise. I am not looking to buy these coins--I came across them and am wondering how coins like these are valued.
