Hi! I decided to try to get into more of the 90 percent silver coins and am trying to find out if I'm getting better at this. Paid $123 (including tax and shipping) for these two lots. Eight 1964 BU and (5) 40 percent. Thoughts? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** Edited by thomaskl 12/07/2022 9:13 pm

$83 melt value. Assuming they're all BU that's probably the going rate. From a strictly bullion play it's not good being 50% above melt but you have some nice coins vs bars or rounds.
Physical silver, particularly BU U.S. 90%, is always trading at a premium. My advice would be to stick to the 90% and let the 40% go unless it's at melt.

Actually paid $104 for the coin lots. The rest of it was shipping and taxes, which ruin it for a silver stacker and collector.

I thought the same thing, Coinfrog, but I just can't find '64 Kennedys for melt value on Ebay. Usually sell for $4-5 over spot, plus shipping unless you bid on a free shipping auction. And that's usually rare.
I have decided to avoid the 40 percent silver and stick to 90 percent.

I have decided to avoid the 40 percent silver and stick to 90 percent. With physical silver bringing significant premiums to melt, halves bringing more than other junk and 1964 Kennedys being pretty much all BU, you didn't do too bad. Stick to the 90% or .999 bars and rounds if just silver is your goal.

I would hold on to silver and gold through atleast 2023. Forecasters are saying that the oz. prices are going to take a jump. Silver may hit the $50/oz mark as it did in the 1980's. It's always a gamble but, well worth the wait if the bullion market shoots up. Watch the bullion market. KITCO is a good site for up to the minute prices. I check it daily. I don't see a huge drop anytime soon.

ps: It's a good idea to watch the futures market as well!
