After parking near my warehouse unit, I get out of my truck and do what I always do - look down.
There it was another coin just found a new home - with me. Right away I could tell from a distance that is was not your normal lot find - the color was off. So after snapping a few photos of it first (not my normal first response, but it was this time).

Picking it up I saw that it was a silver coin.

Yes I know "don't handle a coin like that with bare fingers - but it had seen better days already.
What did I find? You may ask..
It it a 1947-D silver Roosevelt dime. I search this lot out all the time, so this had to be a recent drop from someone...

I'll go out on a limb and say that this one is a no band dime...

The elusive 'no band' dime and to think you found it in a parking lot.

Some folks have all the luck!

Yes, I'm incredibly lucky to find such a rare no-bander - maybe I'll sent it off to PCGS for an attribution. (then sell it off on ETSY!!)

The last time I got a silver dime in change was the mid '80s.... Dearborn, do you suppose that this was someone's pocket piece?

Well my work gloves were dirtier that my hands, so I opted for the risky bare hands method. I had to crop the image down so much to hide my dirty fingernails. lol. (I was just getting back the the warehouse after 8 hours on working on a TI) (TI = Tennent Improvement - AKA a construction site.) And at 60 years old I almost didn't want to pick it up, but from the color, I knew I HAD to save it.

For the 1947-D In MS67 condition, possibly about 125 examples surviving in this grade...

still.

Doing better than these guys...no metal detector costs! This coin in circulated condition is worth at least its weight in silver. The silver melt value for this coin is $1.67 as of December 15, 2022. And your documentation skills are honed and ready for when the big find happens
