Good evening community. I got this nickel today. Was wondering why it looks so new. These last few days I've been getting great looking coins with my son. Can someone please tell me about the coin or even if there's a premium to it.

Very close to mint state if not, but a common date and probably not worth much in this raw condition.

Looks like it could be a proof coin - where did you get it? if from change or you just found it , it would be an 'impaired proof'.
The other option is that this is just a very well kept business strike coin.
Lets see what others have to say...

difficult to evaluate such large pics on many devices, they are about 20 times larger than the board recommended 800 x 800 pixels

Well its a 1964 which was a year of silver coins. Both proof and business strike 1964 nickels are extremely common, and a lot of the proofs were taken out from proof sets that people broke up to get the silver out of over lots of time, leaving the cents and nickels as leftover singles since they arent silver. So some of those proof cents and nickels likely found their way into circulation. (Impaired proof as Dearborn mentioned the techie name).

They are a bit large - which also enlarges the pixels in the image too.
I always crop my images to the edge of the coin, then re-size to 600x600

I'm leaning towards impaired proof although the lighting on the photos is causing a lot of surface glare.

Well it's either an EDS business strike or an Impaired Proof .
