I just found this going through my "loose change" bottle. Would anyone be willing to confirm this as a DD. I have been wrong more than I have been right in the past, but I feel good about this one. If so, what is the best guess on its condition so I can estimate its value. Thanks in advance.

Very cool find. Condition is on the rough side, yes. I'd guess value would run between $50-$125, Give it a loooooong soak in 100% acetone to break down any gunk which may be present.

What it is the weight? To me seem to be a bronze (3.11 gr) by color.

I do not have the means to weigh it at my house. Is it important?

Nice find. Looks to be zinc, man if it was copper that would be a very expensive DDR.

Why expensive JOHN? 2 bill. coins was strike in 1983 at the West Point from one strip of bronze (the only one strip). I agree that 1.78 bill was hold there and the rest was release together with the Phil coinage (page 4 report on June 1984). So around 200 mill. was release. I know that in 1986 and 1987 the mint recall billions of 1 cent for melting and they choice just the bronze and brass coins.

The 1983 copper cent is a key coin to find and is worth a substantial amount.https://www.PCGS.com/news/1983-copp...incoln-cents
Echo1711's coin is copper plated zinc core.

Quote:
Of the 14.6 billion cents manufactured, 12.7 were of the
CPZ alloy
from the report.

Was one strip of 19.000.000 lb. I agree that it is possible that during the recall majority was melted. The banks like to release the old coins and keep the new ones.

I do not question is not an CPZ but worth to look for.

Thanks for all the information everyone. I made one of those teeter totter balance devices that appears to be fairly accurate. I am confident in saying it is copper. Sad, but not too sad!!

If you use an pre-1982 coins could be OK. Do not be sad, if cooper (bronze) you has for your pocket.
