Upgrading Appraised Coins Packaging

Reno911 Valued Member United States 316 Posts	Posted 03/10/2023 11:23 pm I read somewhere recently they are advising people who have old appraised coins such coins that were appaised by PCGS that they should get them repackaged with the new labels and packing etc... What do you think about this? Is it due to all the Counterfeiting of the appraised packing? Wondering your thoughts on this topic? And would it required to have the coin or currency to be re-appraised aswell? Report this Post to the Staff

Also, just to be super-clear with words, I think that the TPGs grade and provide an assurance of the coin being real, but the market provides the prices. Having coins/currency re-holdered simply because you want them in the latest and greatest holder would be a waste of money. hfjacinto Pillar of the Community United States 7273 Posts	Posted 03/11/2023 08:51 am Actually the opposite of what you posted is true, coins in older third party graded slabs tend to have a premium. People assume (usually correctly) that the prior slabs were under graded compared to now and therefore are worth more. I think just getting graded coins regraded is mostly a waste of money unless there is a chance the coin will come back a higher grade.
