Here's a coin that's out of my price range but that I was curious to see what you all thought it would grade at. These are not my photos, so I won't be able to get any other photos outside of these two.

If genuine (no opinion), I'll say AU-50, perhaps 53.

coinfrog - Is it the "3" that has you questioning it's being "genuine"? That's my concern as well. It looks off kilter and the strange glare makes me suspicious. It's different than mine. Staff Note: This is not an 1893-S

I only say "if genuine" because I am unfamiliar with the markers for a genuine example of this scarce coin.

Not genuine unless the date positioning exactly matches this one. The one being asked about is a counterfeit, or altered date.

Agree NSS-52! My example is one of the few coins that I have as PCGS Certified. Yours is a lovely example.

@dsking
The image you posted is also not genuine (if it is an 1893-S).

Sorry - it's not an "S". It doesn't have a mint mark. Sorry if there was any confusion. Mine is quite real though. It guess it was an apple to oranges comparison.

Id just hop onto vamworld.com and go to the 1893-S page of all known vams. If there are things not matching up with their page of pick up points, then it is a likely altered coin.

That's a coin to avoid unless it's slabbed by PCGS or NGC.
Describe it as if there were no picture. Picture it as if there were no description.

I believe this one is counterfeit. I do not see the die line going through the T in Liberty.
