I've been trying to identify this particular error that appears to show rotated hub doubling on the obverse in parts of LIBERTY, the motto and the 72 in the date. Any and all help is appreciated.

That is not Hub doubling, that is minor Machine or Mechanical Doubling,
a worthless type of doubling.
Also Hub Doubling is not an error, it is a Variety, big difference.

This looks more like WMDO-001. A doubled master die.
Go to doubleddie.com and at the bottom of the 1972 doubled die listing you will find it and an explanation.
Good info so read it all.

Machine Doubling and master die doubling. (50% of all the cents that year had this MDD. So they are common and have no premium)

What to look for on these cents to spot DDOs?

Note on the DDO's the '9' on the date? That is the quick way to search for this years DDO's.

CoopHome: Quick find for DDO's on the 1972 Memorial die cents. speed up the process with this clue on the '9'.
