My OCD got the best of me about 10 years ago and I'm trying to get all mint sets and proof sets in original government packaging. I know mint set and proof set are not everyone's favorite but has anyone ever tried to do this? I also don't know if the was ever a topic on this forum. I apologize if I missed a previous post.

That's the beauty of coin collecting--a very personal pursuit.

I managed to get every proof set dated from 1950 to 2022 (2023 is not out yet). From 1950 to 1954 they came in small boxes and were individually wrapped. In 1955 they (the mint) started out boxing up the sets then switched to flat packs (I have both styles.)
The mint also produced sets from 1936 to 1942 then stopped entirely until 1950.

The early sets are VERY expensive. While I don't have the '36 to '42 OGP sets, I managed to get a proof from each year (I just had to have them)
Finding the 1950 to present is fairly easy, the the '50 to about '52 or 3 is fairly costly.

I wish you luck in your endeavor

Here is another topic on this, umm topic:

Best of wishes in this quest. @Dearborn is likely our CCF expert on the topic.

Myself, I've been trying for the complete run. Back to 1956 in the mint sets and 1954 for the proof, including both the flat and box set from 1955. Price aside, the earlier these sets the more toning enters the equation. I don't mind an attractive tone, but most I've found are rather unattractive. Often mis-matched from coin to coin within the set. So I keep looking.

That's quite an undertaking and I wish you the best of luck.
I did the same thing with Silver Eagle proofs. I put together three sets from 1986 to present (except for 2009). I know once you start something like that it's hard to quit before you're done.

Update- just got my 1947,1949 and 1951 PDS mint sets in original packaging. I just lack 1948 and 1952 mint sets. I just lack 1942 and older for proofs sets. I'm going to have to settle for these in the capital holders. The journey continues.
