Found a slight break in the monotony of coin roll hunting.

Nice impaired proof. You can put together a nice impaired proof collection in the long run. John1

I feel sad when I see an modern impaired proof in circulation. This is because someone had to break it out of the case and spend it. Was this someone a thief, someone desperate for money, a spoiled child, or uninformed inheritor...?

Way cool! Quote: I feel sad when I see an modern impaired proof in circulation. This is because someone had to break it out of the case and spend it. Was this someone a thief, someone desperate for money, a spoiled child, or uninformed inheritor...? You never know, it might be a coin collector who had an extra proof set and thought it would be fun to put all those coins into circulation. Sort of like putting Buffalo nickels and other defunct designs "back into the wild."

That one looks pretty good, but I have some 80s-90s proof cents that got so bad in their OGP that I had to crack them open for the other coins. I will probably put them back into circulation.

Quote: You never know, it might be a coin collector,,, I can understand a Buffalo nickel or Wheat cent, but not a proof coin. Circulation ruins them as proofs.

Could be that someone felt that some of the coins would have a chance at a pr70 so those were cracked out and sent in. The leftovers were just discarded because the effort to sell a coin for a buck or two wasn't worth the effort and they already have enough average condition proofs.

It's always nice to find a proof in the wild! @J-Tal, I've put modern proof cents and nickels into circulation when I've cracked out silver proof sets a few times over the years. These were sets with damaged cases and I just kept the silver. Like when I spend worn wheat cents, dateless Buffalo nickels, cull Liberty nickels and the such, I thought it might be something that could spur an interest in coins for someone who happened to find it. And, by the way, to the forum!

His quote "they're not worth messing with".
