I have an ATB coin that I can't find any info on. It's a 2018-S Voyageurs Quarter but it's got a gold tint and weighs 6.2 grams. I dropped it in a stack of quarters and the sound it made was like dropping a silver dime. Any ideas?

*EDIT*
The arrows in this picture show where the rim is flush with the coin not raised.

I have seen something recently about an " experimental planchet " quarter but I'm not sure of the dates this took place. The color was similar to yours and it was worth a fair amount . Edit : but the weight of yours falls right in with a silver proof quarter and the color being a result of natural toning.

gold plated for sure. possibly an impaired proof going by the cameo on the portrait versus the BU S version in rolls from the mint.

This is most likely a gold plated clad quarter. If you have a gold buyer in your area that will do an XRF scan of the coin, it will tell you what's up with the gold surface.

The quarters struck on Experimental Planchets were all 1999 State Quarters. The mint wound up with some planchets that should have been tested using Golden Dollar dies, but the dollar dies were delayed. They only struck a handful of these quarters using all five different 1999 State Quarter design dies.

The experimental planchet strikes go for several thousand dollars when you can find them. As the planchets were slightly smaller in diameter they can be slightly under the specified 24.26mm with weakness seen in some of the strikes. Here's a link to Heritage with some of the coins and more details about this interesting coin. https://www.ha.com/c/search-results...veTab-071515

Looks like an early stage toning on a silver proof quarter, it does not look gold to me.(wouldn't plating mess with the polished background and devices, making everything shiny?)The black toning spots on the rim support this. Just junk silver now.
