1969 S Double Die ? Good Enough ? - Coin Community Forum

Alex_C New Member United States 9 Posts	Posted 05/03/2023 5:01 pm I have a Mint State looking 1969S Penny It has doubling under magnification Its around the face, on all the date number and on some of the letters of In God we Trust. If graded professionally would this be enough to get a Double Die grade. How do professional grading services judge double die marks ? Thank you for any advice Report this Post to the Staff

dsking Pillar of the Community United States 2365 Posts	Posted 05/03/2023 6:40 pm I've seen dozens of the 1969 cents that were very strongly struck! The 2 9's on your coin look suspicious enough to me as being possibly doubled, while in-hand. That said, double's are often very easy to see even without a microscope. A local dealer might be able to tell if yours is a true double or not. Photos are sometimes discouraging. I would say that most of what you're seeing are MD's. More than likely your coin is in mint state but, not worth having graded. Report this Post to the Staff

Dowhat Pillar of the Community United States 877 Posts	Posted 05/03/2023 7:28 pm I would venture that this is a result of an instant die shift during the strike. Like a wobbly die. Happens as parts in the machinery wear out. Consult sites that show what to look for. Copper Coins. Variety Vista, Wexlers. To name a few. The Big 69 S is unmistakable. PowerBall odds are better. Research is the key here. There are no get rich quick schemes in this endeavor. Pay less attention to YouTube charlatans and more attention to forums like this one. You will learn more sooner.
