Seems like mechanical damage to me as the pattern of flatness matches location on both sides.

Yes, post-strike damage--possibly mechanical in nature. Coin didn't leave the striking chamber in that condition.

just another damaged coin - we have seen many of these that were partially cut or damaged by diagonal cutters, maybe even a pair of flush cutters.
