PCGS - Tab toning is a hallmark of classic commemoratives, and this PCGS MS67+ Albany Commemorative Half Dollar wears it beautifully. Issued to mark the 250th anniversary of Albany's city charter, only 17,671 were minted. No loud colors this Toner Tuesday - just history and quiet beauty.

It is indeed a beautiful example.

I take exception to this erroneous statement. There were 25,013 Albany half dollars minted which included 13 assay coins.

At the conclusion of the distribution period there were 7,342 Albany returned to the mint unsold for melting.

The net distribution was indeed 17,671 as stated above.

Fortunately for us CCF members we have commems to keep the record straight - and I'm confident he did so on this coin in his 'melting pot' series.

Perhaps commems will check in and add to my comments.

This particular toning a detractor for me, that hides some of the design detail.

At 67, traditional blast white would have been a strong preference,
that would have highlighted the design detail with such a low mintage, with minimal die wear.

interesting toning pattern - was it initially covered by something that had 'wings' on it?
