I've been so frustrated, every day my son (9 y/o) comes home from school with no homework. Of course the teacher are so deathly afraid that the bottom students pass the "test" (the TAKS here in TX) that the top students do little to nothing. I decided to take matters in my own hands. I gave him 4 foreign coins, nothing special (Lithuania, Macao, Uruguay, and Norway). I told him to find them in the coin book (Krause of course). Then I had him put together a report about each country. Great educational opportunity! Afterwards I discussed about each place with him (I gave him a geography lecture).

Same thing here in West TX, no homework! My girls were slammed everyday when we were in Italy (Air Force). That's a good idea, have them do a paper on coins and turn it in to their school teacher, not that they need extra credit, but it mat send a signal to the educators.

success,

Man, you've said a mouthful here. My sentiments exactly; the local school here teaches the state standards of learning test, the subject matter of which is too easy IMHO. My 9 y.o. has a project coming up about Mali (of all places) and I went out and bought him 4 coins fom there so he could write a report on them and display them on poster board. They are actually pretty cool. One has a lion, one has a hippopotamus and another has a horses head. In approx. 1986, Mali joined with 11 other countries that use the Colonies du Afrique (CFA) currency so there are no more Mali coins per se.

You know you're addicted to coin collecting when....

You cringe at the thought of these not being in 2x2s, and just on there with tape or glue.

I haven't decided exactly how to do it yet but was thinking of putting them in plastic capsules and gluing the capsules to the poster board. Then returning them to 2x2s when it's over.

That is probably the best idea. Would look much cleaner than taping 2x2's to the board.
