Hey everyone, I've been sitting on about $13 worth of pre-64 US silver coins for a while now. Well fishing is HOT around here, and I need a new rod and reel. My wife said sell some of your coins. So I am ready to do so. I do have some questions about BST. I have a price in mind, which I believe is a fair price. My questions are on BST "Best Practices". Payment method- I wouldn't feel comfortable taking checks, I do have Paypal, but would like to do business in Money Orders, preferably post office money orders. Is that a common thing? Is it common or acceptable to hold merchandise until clearing of M.O.? Shipping method- What's the best route? Post office? I wouldn't mind spending 5-10 of my money on shipping. What are some ways P.O. offer? I'll do the research on pricing and all, but just want to know how the best way to ship coins is (BTW these are mainly 2X2's with a few loose coins). How would you ship them?
Thanks so much for any input you can give, as I'm just an honest hard working guy, looking to not get hussled!

2x2s and a bubble mailer work fine, and is about what anyone would expect.
Oh, and you'd better have pics, or you'll get tons of requests for them. The people love them.

Picture are very important. Add shipping cost in listing, use paypal if you take money orders of any kind wait till you have the cash in hand, You can cash u.s.postal money orders at post office if its not to high amount like a 1000.00 dollars. Us the postal service and if the winner does not want to pay for insurance state at winner risk and state that in the auction. Oh state in listing description that you will take money orders and what type, if you want U.S.Postal money orders only, state that only. Good luck with your listing

I don't Paypal, so everything I buy here I pay for with a check or money order. I don't mind if someone wants to hold my check until it clears, but I wouldn't be happy if someone wanted to hold the coins until a postal money order cleared.

This is funny to me since I just sold my boat to make room for my newborn. I'm looking to sell most all my fishing gear/tackle to buy more coins lol! Talk about opposite situations :)
I guess paypal is the safest way to rec payment and I always found printing your own shipping labels through paypal is pretty simple and cheap. Have to have a scale though. Good luck!

BST is the buy sell and trade section of the forum ... not where we are posting. Here http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...asp?CAT_ID=8I think good images, short concise terms and description. What ever payment terms you'll accept is your business. I will say this ( knock on wood ) I can't recall of I ever had a check bounce. I don't think so and I took many many many checks from US only. Money orders and a stamp to mail it cost the buyer money and Paypal cost you money. Money orders lower the final price by a buck or two, Paypal can add to the final price because of convenience. It's like 6 apples plus 4 apples equals 10 apples just like 4 apples plus 6 apples equals 10 apples. I think people take into consideration how much the total is that something is going to cost them when they decide to buy it. Put yourself in the buyers position and see how you feel about your terms. Would you buy from you? Can't wait to see what you list and do!

ceaton, you do not have to do a transaction on ebay to be able to print a PayPal shipping label, just receive a payment from a verified PayPal user. sublime118, I recently started selling for the first time, starting out right here before moving on to ebay. I have been accepting cash(small amounts), PMO, personal check, and PayPal for all transactions on the forum. I have no problem taking a check from people here but I do not think I would have done it on ebay when it was allowed. I would make sure personal checks cleared before sending items but I would mail items right after I cashed a PMO. I accept PayPal fees as part of doing business and I actually purchased packaging materials specifically for shipping coins and banknotes. Everything I have shipped so far has been USPS first class and if you print a shipping label through PayPal, delivery confirmation is 18 cents but it is 65 cents at a post office. One thing to note- in order to take advantage of the DC, the package has to be classified as a large envelope(>3/4" thickness or long dimensions) or small package.

Wow y'all are an infinite pool of wisdom. I appreciate everyone's input, and it has definitely pointed me in the right direction. I hope to get the pics done, and the listing done tomorrow. I hope it's a success, and who ever gets the coins appreciate them as much as I have. Thanks again!

Quote: trdhrdr007 Their was a rash of counterfeit U.S.Postal money orders a few years back. There probably still are counterfeit postal money orders out there. If this was ebay, or the buyer had a very low post count, then that might be a problem. I expect better from the established members of this forum.
