I recently acquired a few 43 steel pennies that appear to be slightly under MS condition but one of them in particular has a rainbow type toning. Is this a typical toning color for the 43 steel pennies? FYI - they were all packaged (not mint packaging) separately and appeared as if they had been so for a while. I had to remove to take decent pics.

Thank you for the added pic. The edge looks "shiny' and it should not. I am thinking it has been replated which makes it PMD.

I had a feeling something was off with it. Thank you for your time.
Have you ever seen a 43 steel penny with toning like that?

Agree likely reprocessed with some undetermined environmental toning, just worth face value.

I agree. It's been reprocessed unfortunately.

The pics are out of focus, hard to see much. It's highly unusual for these to tone. The surfaces do not look re-plated to me. The coin appears to be MS, most of the re-plated coins are AU and lower in my experience. Without clearer pictures, it's hard to say much more.

Something else I was curious about is the mint mark. Does it look like a D over D to anyone?
